After graduating the Art Center College of Design in 2000, Akiko Stehrenberger moved to New York City to pursue freelance editorial illustration while working for a noted fashion photographer. Upon moving back to Los Angeles in 2004, she became an art director and designer of movie poster advertising while still maintaining steady work as a freelance illustrator doing celebrity caricature for magazines, character and toy design, cd cover and album artwork, and portraiture. She is featured in books, Exploring Illustration, How To Grow As An lllustrator, and Drawing Inspiration: Visual Artists at Work, all written by Michael Fleishman. Her movie poster illustration and design for Funny Games, received/is receiving a lot of press, including a Key Art Award nomination for best horror poster, and taking both number one spots on The Auteurs Movie Posters of the Decade list, and the Australian Stale Popcorn Top 50 Posters of the Decade. She can be commissioned for portraits and sells prints of her work.
